WHO WE ARE

At Sandveld Beef Station (SBS Bonsmara Stud), we pride ourselves on being more than just a cattle farm. Since our inception in 2019, we have been driven by one goal: to improve the quality and sustainability of Bonsmara cattle production in Botswana and neighbouring markets. We started with a vision to raise cattle that are tough, productive, and well suited to local conditions. Our herd is enriched with genetics from Hartebeestloop Namibia, a leader in Bonsmara breeding. We focus on both commercial beef and stud breeding—ensuring both meat yield and reproductive excellence.

2019

Run by our Farm Manager with a vast skillset in both Stud Breeding and the Meat Industry, Sandveld Beef Station provides Botswanian feed lots with male weaners which are then exported to South Africa due to high demand. 

By sourcing prime genetics from Hartebeestloop Namibia, we are able to offer our clients beef that stands out for its flavour, tenderness, and nutritional value. Whether serving the local market or exporting to South Africa, our cattle are bred with a singular focus on producing the finest Bonsmara beef available.

As stewards of Bonsmara cattle farming, Sandveld Beef Station adheres to ethical, sustainable farming practices that prioritize the health of the cattle and the quality of the beef. With the prestige of Hartebeestloop genetics behind us, we deliver a superior beef experience that meets the highest standards in the industry.

With our Manager always on the ground, our hands-on approach ensures that every calf is inspected by birth to even further our commercial-use breeding. Following strict organic techniques and with the help of knowledgeable Botswanian locals, our passion for cattle can therefore expand across the larger agricultural horizon.

Located in the lush vegetation of the Kalahari Desert, our farm provides an ideal environment for Bonsmara cattle to thrive. Raised in a free-range, grass-fed system, our cattle benefit from natural growth without the use of hormones, resulting in healthy, flavorful beef. This natural environment, combined with the elite Bonsmara genetics from Hartebeestloop, ensures that Sandveld continues to produce beef of exceptional quality.

The raising of cattle touches almost all of the Botswanian population, with cattle outnumbering people by two to one. Urban dwellers and rural communities alike have some involvement and contact on a daily basis with cattle grazing on the veld.

The Botswana cattle industry uses free range and natural farming methods, which ensure full – flavoured, lean beef of highest quality. Botswana’s land and its sub- tropical and semi-arid climate is ideally suited for cattle farming.

The country boasts of between 2.5 to 2.8 million head of cattle.
